0409: “Woodpecker From Mars” by Faith No More

Pitch: ominous violins mixed in with thrash-ish metal riffs and speed drumming, and a heavy, heavy thumping bass that also oscillates melodically.

Yeah, I’m not sure how they pulled this one off either, kiddos, but they did. Faith No More tends to get lost in the shuffle of bands that built the foundation for early ’90s alternative rock but their third studio album, and first with lead singer Mike Patton, The Real Thing is truly a carnival of underappreciated alternative anthems with “Woodpecker From Mars” being one of the wildest and best rock instrumentals ever pressed to vinyl.
